phedon papamichael — getting made podcast #012
Legendary Director and Cinematographer Phedon Papamichael shares his story, from starting out in the Roger Corman "farm" to conquering the Hollywood studio system, then championing auteur filmmaking and shining his spotlight on European talent that would otherwise go unnoticed.
He discusses testing out his son's love for cinema by showing him Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo as a litmus test. Now, another Papamichael is on set honing his craft.
He has shot over 40 films on celluloid and 20 on digital, recently using the Sony Venice 2 on A Complete Unknown due to its incredible low-light capabilities.
Phedon is a wealth of knowledge and deeply rooted in the classics. His frequent collaborators include Alexander Payne, James Mangold, Matt Damon and George Clooney.
It was an honor to sit down and discuss film and life with him.
